Doelan (Bretagne), France Tour 13, Day 6 (20 April 2026)

I’m writing this entry in August 2026. Shortly after arriving in Yport(that was 15 April 2026) my laptop died on me and I fell so far behind with the blog that I let it go. With Tour 13 lasting almost 3 months, it would have been too much to bring it up to date, even if I could have remembered all that we experienced over the ensuing weeks. Having said that, I want some kind of record of Tour 13 and I have therefore decided to make a short entry for most of the days when we were out on Tour 13 using photos and comments that I posted on Facebook during our travels. Fortunately, I posted something most every day.

“Vanya had a bad night (psoriatic arthritis) and had to rest up today and so, looking to take advantage of the continuing fine weather, I set off alone along the coast to the small village of Doelan. The views were/are magnificent… (the beaches are not unlike those in Galicia)…and, after arriving in Doelan, I enjoyed a great lunch sitting outside the ‘Le Rive Gauche’ restaurant…”

We’ll be trying Pont-Aven in the morning…

Le Pouldu (Bretagne), France Tour 13, Day 5 (19 April 2026)

I’m writing this entry in August 2026. Shortly after arriving in Yport(that was 15 April 2026) my laptop died on me and I fell so far behind with the blog that I let it go. Fortunately, I posted something most every day.

“We’re pausing for a couple of days at a very quiet beach resort (Le Pouldu) near Clohars-Carnoet in the Finisterre department of Bretagne. Lovely beaches, great cider (brut with no gas) and a pretty little church…. Le Pouldu was home for a fair while to the artist Paul Gaugin and I enjoyed a coastal walk today which included many scenes which he captures on canvas. Love the one reproduced in this post.”

Our intention was to stay for a couple of nights. However, the weather looked promising for the next few days; we were delighted with our campsite; the area is well served with restaurants and bars and; to cap it all, there is much of interest in the area. In the end we stayed for four days, taking in Doelan, Pont-Aven and Kerascoet during our stay.

Erquy (Bretagne), France Tour 13, Day 4 (18 April 2026)

I’m writing this entry in August 2026. Shortly after arriving in Fougeres (that was 16 April 2026) my laptop died on me and I fell so far behind with the blog that I let it go. With Tour 13 lasting almost 3 months, it would have been too much to try and bring it up to date even if I could have remembered all that we experienced over the ensuing weeks. Having said that, I want some kind of record of Tour 13 and I have therefore decided to make a short entry for most of the days when we were out on Tour 13 using photos and comments that I posted on Facebook during our travels. Fortunately, I posted something most every day.

So, here are a few of the photos (with comment where appropriate) of our visit to Erquy:-

“Erquy is just a short walk along Cotes d’Armor from Pleneuf Val Andre, where we ara parked up for a couple of days. It’s a small fishing town of just 4,000 people and yet it is considered to be the scallop capital of France (no prizes for guessing what we are eating tonight). In L’Eglise Saint Pierre et Saint Paul it also has one of the most enchanting churches in the department…”

Finisterre next; starting with Le Pouldu…

Pleneuf-Val-Andre (Bretagne), France Tour 13, Day 3 (17 April 2026)

I’m writing this entry in August 2026. Shortly after arriving in Fougeres (that was 16 April 2026) my laptop died on me and I fell so far behind with the blog that I let it go. So, here are a few of the photos (with comment where appropriate) of our visit to Pleneuf-Val-Andre:-

We were heading south until Vanya decided she wanted to visit the coast; not just any part of the Bretagne coast… so here we are in Pleneuf-Val-Andre on the Cotes d’Armor! …… We paused in Montauban en Montagne on the way here and enjoyed the best ever crepes… and now I’m chilling over a beer having walked a few miles of Brittany’s beautiful coastline…”

Oh…and couple of photos from earlier in the day at Montauban en Montgne.

From Pleneuf Val Andre (PVA) we drove to Le Pouldu in the south of Finistere (more about that later) but; before leaving, we were able to explore a little more of the Cote d’Armor including the nearby Port du Dahouet at the southern edge of PVA and the beautiful little fishing village of Erquy which is a few kilometres to the north. More about Erquy next.

We simply don’t spend enough time in Bretagne although the same can be said of just about anywhere we have visited in France. Spending the night in Fougeres we thought to head out for crepes this evening but a meal in the Van won the day… not to forget a great bottle of Chinon (red)… We’re pretty tired…The crepes can wait”

And on to Pleneuf-Val-Andre via Montauban en Montagne…
